DiJonai Carrington had career bests with 33 points and 13 rebounds to help No. 8 Stanford beat host No. 9 Tennessee, 95-85, in a nonconference women’s basketball game on Tuesday.

Kiana Williams and Alanna Smith each added 16 points for the Cardinal (8-1), which beat a previously undefeated top 10 team a second straight game. Stanford knocked off then No. 3 Baylor, 68-63, on Saturday.

“I’d say we’re a confident team, but we’re not content with this,” Carrington said. “We’re not content with anything that we’ve done. We know that we have so many weapons from inside out, outside in, shooters, drivers, o-boarders (offensive rebounders) who can finish.”

Lacie Hull added 14 points and Maya Dodson had 10 points and nine rebounds as Stanford ended a two-game losing streak in the series. It was the Cardinal’s third win in 16 meetings with the Lady Vols outside of Maples Pavilion. Tennessee still leads the series, 26-11.

Stanford led by as many as 15 points in the second quarter but Tennessee rallied to take a two-point edge midway through the third quarter.

Dodson scored on a layup with 4:08 left in the third quarter to tie it and Hull hit a layup less than a minute later to put Stanford ahead to stay. Carrington hit a 3-pointer to extend the lead as the Cardinal finished the third on an 11-4 run.

The Lady Vols pulled within two points in the first minute of the final period but Carrington then scored Stanford’s next eight points to help build a 12-point advantage with under two minutes to play.

Carrington was 11 of 15 from the field, including a 4 of 5 effort from 3-point range. Williams added seven assists and five rebounds as the Cardinal out-boarded Tennessee by a 45-31 margin.

“After the first two, I figured they were going to come out a little bit more,” Carrington said of her 3-pointers. “I hesitated on one because I thought they were going to come out, but I just took the shot. I was feeling it.”

Stanford shot 55 percent (33 of 60) for the game and was even better from long range, sinking 14 of 24 (58.3 percent).

The Cardinal led at halftime, 47-37.
