Julian Steinbrenner scored 24 points and Evan Dray added 23 but Gunn dropped a closely-contested 73-66 boys basketball decision to Santa Teresa in the opening round of the Los Gatos Wildcat Shootout tournament on Wednesday.

Steinbrenner was 7 of 11 from the floor and Dray also reached double figures in rebounding for the Titans (3-2), who meet Saratoga at 5 p.m. in a consolation game Thursday.

Freshman Kaden Holdbrook, Jake Humble and Nik Olsson combined for another 19 points for Gunn, which beat the Falcons by two points last Friday.

In a nonleague game, Pinewood topped host Summit Shasta, 71-62, after recovering from an early 13-point deficit. The Panthers (4-1) host Mid-Peninsula in a nonleague game at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Boys soccer

Jonny Ebrahimian recorded a goal and an assist and visiting Menlo School beat Woodside, 2-0, in a nonleague contest Wednesday.

Ebrahimian put the Knights (2-0) on the board by converting a penalty kick and then found Nico Monsalve, who scored with about 16 minutes to play.

Senior Santy Mendoza and the Knights defense put up a strong front and recorded their second shutout in a row.

Menlo hosts Aragon at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Girls soccer

Amanda Khu and Georgia Nieh each scored twice and Castilleja opened its season with a 4-1 victory over Nueva in a nonleague contest Wednesday at El Camino Park.

Anja Peterson recorded a pair of assists for the Gators, who play at Menlo on Tuesday in a 3:30 p.m. start.

Goalkeeper Shosi Gevelber not only recorded the victory but added an assist when Khu tracked down a long kick and converted it into a goal.
