Menlo College’s Maggie McDonald and Sofia Salim were named to the All-Golden State Athletic League Conference team as outside hitters, it was announced Tuesday. McDonald made the team for a second straight year and Salim was named for the first time.

McDonald has 253 kills, averaging a career-high 3.1 kills per set, which ranks fourth in the conference.

She leads the Oaks in hitting percentage among qualifying candidates, and has shown versatility this season with a career-best 234 digs, nearly three per set, which led to early-season double-doubles.

McDonald was named the GSAC’s Attacker of the Week on September 17 and currently is one kill behind Sanoe’ Eselu for third-most in program history.

Salim finished the regular season with a strong push. She recorded five consecutive double-digits kill performances, giving her 67 over her past five matches.

She currently has career bests with 218 kills, kills per set, hitting percentage, blocks, and digs. Coming off the hot finish to the year, she was named the GSAC’s Attacker of the Week on Monday for a 13-kill effort as the Oaks swept William Jessup University to finish fourth in the GSAC.

The Oaks are preparing for the conference playoffs, hosted by Hope International, which begin Friday night in Fullerton.

The Oaks take on fifth-seeded Arizona Christian for the third time this season. First serve is tentatively set for 7 pm, or 45 minutes following the completion of the 5 pm match. A win for the Oaks would earn them a match against top-seeded The Master’s University on Saturday.
