Stanford sailing claimed its second straight Match Race conference crown over the weekend, and qualified for the national championships. The Cardinal also finished 12th at the Coed Showcase Final.

The Cardinal topped Cal Maritime Academy, 2-1, in the finals to claim the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference (PCCSC) match race title.

Stanford was led by skipper Jack Parkin and crew Mathew Hogan, Wiley Rogers and Victoria Thompson.

The Cardinal was 4-1 in round robin competition with wins over Long Beach, Cal Poly, Santa Barbara and Hawaii, and its only defeat to the Keelhaulers, who finished undefeated in round robin.

The teams split the first two races of the finals, and in the final race, Stanford passed at the first mark and led on the second upwind, but a slow penalty kill and wind shift put CMA back ahead. Stanford then passed again at the second upwind mark and led to the finish.

Stanford advances to compete at the ICSA Match Race National Championships in Newport Beach, Nov. 16-18.

In Maryland, the Cardinal finished with 342 points at the Coed Showcase Final. Yale won with 246 points.

In the A division, skipper Romain Screve and crews Taylor Kirkpatrick and Daniel Matthews finished 13th with 186 points, while in the B division, junior skipper Jacob Rosenberg and crews Kathryn Booker and Meg Gerli combined to finish fifth with 156 points. Freshman Telis Athanasopoulos Yogo was an alternate for the Cardinal.

The Cardinal travels to Long Beach for the Women’s PCCSC Championships this weekend.
