Will Riley scored four goals, Isaac Rotenberg added three and Sacred Heart Prep edged Bellarmine, 12-11, in third-place game of the Memorial Cup Tournament in San Jose on Saturday.

Bellarmine went ahead, 10-7, with 4:44 remaining to play in the third period, the largest lead for either team.

Larsen Weigle scored a little more than a minute later to spark a run of five unanswered goals for the Gators. Riley scored a power play goal with 45 seconds left in the third period to tie it and Luke Johnston scored midway through the fourth period to give SHP an 11-10 advantage.

Rotenberg gave the Gators (22-2) a two-goal edge, scoring with 1:44 left. Bellarmine’s Gabe Discipulo, a summer teammate of several SHP players, scored in the final second for the final margin of victory.

Overall, there were four lead changes and the game was tied on five other occasions. Both schools compete in the WCAL tournament at St. Francis beginning Thursday against opponents to be determined.

Sacred Heart Prep dropped a 12-9 decision to Campolindo (18-4) in the semifinals. The Cougars never trailed but their lead was never safe until the waning moments.

Riley scored with 3:21 remaining to play in the contest to draw the Gators within 10-9. Campo called a timeout and never allowed another score in ending Sacred Heart Prep’s 15-game winning streak.

Walker Seymour scored three goals to lead the Gators and Kyle Ballack added two. Griffen Price recorded 20 saves on the day.

Ron Freeman Invitational

Woodside (17-6) won three games at the tournament hosted by Monta Vista on Saturday. Palo Alto (16-7) finished 2-1.

Andrew Mills and Joe Untrecht scored multi-goals in all three contests: 8-6 over Wilcox; 16-4 over Santa Teresa; and 20-6 over Lynbrook.

Untrecht scored 10 goals on the day while Mills scored three in each of the games.

Ryan Mills added four goals and Jack Anderson had three against Lynbrook. Tyler Deal and Aidan Seed each scored twice.

Park Fabian added a pair of goals in the win over Santa Teresa.

Woodside opens the Glen Kovacs Peninsula Athletic League tournament with a 4 p.m. against Burlingame at Menlo School on Tuesday.

The third-seeded Wildcats, who have clinched a spot in the Central Coast Section playoffs, will host the semifinals on Thursday and, if they win, will play the winner of Tuesday’s 2:45 p.m. match between No. 2 Menlo-Atherton and Half Moon Bay.

Top-seeded and regular-season champion Menlo School also opens on Tuesday against either Sequoia or Hillsdale at 6:30 p.m., also at Menlo.

Palo Alto beat Willow Glen and Mitty but lost, 11-7, to Redwood The Vikings open the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League playoffs on Tuesday.

Nor Cal Invitational

Isabella Bachler scored with six seconds remaining and the Sacred Heart Prep girls water polo team downed San Ramon Valley, 8-7, Saturday in the fifth-place game of the NorCal Invitational at Sacred Heart Prep.

The Wolves tied the game with 88 seconds remaining to play. SH Prep called a timeout with 17 seconds left to set up a winning shot. Nellie McAdams corralled SRV’s final attempt with no time left.

Bachler scored three goals for the Gators (18-6), who will play in the West Catholic Athletic League tournament beginning Thursday with a game against Mitty at St. Francis.

Alexandra Szczerba added a pair of goals and McAdams finished with seven saves.

Sacred Heart Prep took its first lead of the contest when Bachler scored on a power play with 4:40 remaining to play. The Gators were 2 of 6 on power plays overall while SRV was 4 of 6. McAdams blocked a Wolves’ penalty shot.

Earlier in the day, Sacred Heart took an early lead and held on to beat Monte Vista Danville 12-6. Eleanor Facey scored five goals and Bachler added two.

Castilleja beat St. Francis, 11-7, in its first game Saturday.

Minhee Chung scored five times in the victory over the Lancers. Claire Pisani added four goals, while Madison Lewis acquired a couple of assists, five steals and a goal. Sarah Pedley recorded six saves.

Castilleja lost, 19-10, to Miramonte in the ninth-place contest. Pisani had six goals and Chung added three for the Gators (17-5). Chung had four assists, Madison Lewis recorded three assists and a pair of steals and Lexi Triantis added three steals.

Acalanes won the tournament with a 15-14 victory over Leland

Castilleja plays in the Glen Kovacs Peninsula Athletic Tournament beginning Tuesday, with a 6:30 p.m. game at Woodside against either Burlingame or Carlmont.

The host Wildcats meet Half Moon Bay at 5:15 p.m. to determine the PAL’s fourth representative to the Central Coast Section tournament. Menlo-Atherton and Aragon meet at 4 p.m. and Menlo School opens the day with a 2:45 p.m. contest with Notre Dame Belmont.

The semifinals will be held at Menlo School on Thursday and the finals will take place Saturday at Menlo-Atherton.

Gunn suffered two tough losses Saturday, 13-11 to Clovis and 5-4 to Clovis West.
