Community Notebook: Traffic advisory for Saturday

Stanford Cardinal play season opener against USC on Sept. 8

Heavy traffic is expected in the vicinity of Stanford Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 8, because of a football game between the Stanford Cardinal and University of Southern California Trojans, according to a traffic advisory issued by the Palo Alto police.

Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m. and as many as 50,000 people are expected to attend the early-season Pac-12 opener. According to the advisory, heavy traffic is expected on Embarcadero Road, El Camino Real and Sand Hill Road, beginning mid-afternoon. Residents should plan accordingly.

Caltrain also is kicking off its special service to the Stanford Stadium station for all weekend Cardinal home games this season, which are scheduled for Sep. 15, Oct. 6 and 27, and Nov. 10.

There should still be easy access through the area on a bike. Something to consider as a plan b.
