Prep report: Menlo wins in boys lacrosse and baseball

Brody LaPorte recorded four goals and the Menlo boys lacrosse team won its fourth straight, beating host Carlsbad, 17-5, Monday in a nonleague affair.

David Schmaier and Finn Leschly each added three goals and an assist for the Knights (7-3), who remain in the San Diego area for a game at Santa Fe Christian on Tuesday night at 5 p.m.

Ryan Young scored twice and added three assists for Menlo, which has outscored its opponents by a 59-22 margin during its winning streak.

Goalies Theo Kim and Jack Rellamas combined to record four saves.

Kevin Alarcon threw a five-hitter and host Menlo topped Menlo-Atherton, 4-2, in a nonleague game Monday.

Bennett Norman and Kevin King each had two hits for the Knights (6-7), who travel to Menlo-Atherton for a 1 p.m. game Tuesday.

Sam Weseloh doubled in a run during a three-run rally in the fourth inning that erased a 2-1 deficit.

Tyler Nelson had two hits for the Bears (6-7) while both Michael Pariseau and Tommy Eisenstat drove in a run.

Maddie Ta drove in two runs but it wasn't enough to overcome a bundle of fielding miscues and Gunn dropped a 6-4 decision to host Fremont in a SCVAL El Camino Division contest Monday.

Michele Schwarzwalder had two hits and scored twice for the Titans (4-5, 2-2), who host Cupertino in a league contest Wednesday at 4 p.m. Romi Miller also had a pair of hits and Isabel Flores drove in a run.

Emma Sloan did not allow an earned run, giving up six hits with two walks and three strikeouts. The Firebirds (6-8, 4-1) were not credited with a RBI.

Gunn remains in third place, behind Fremont and league-leader Los Altos, which has the only overall winning record in the division.

Boys golf

Finn O'Kelly fired a 3-over 39 at Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club but it wasn't enough to help Sacred Heart Prep overcome West Bay Athletic League co-leader Harker (8-1, 7-1) on Monday.

Harker topped Sacred Heart Prep, 181-209, with its second lowest round of the season. Medalist Jaimin Bhagat went 2-under and two others shot even-par.

The Gators (2-5, 2-3) host The King's Academy at Palo Alto Hills on Tuesday. Tee time is 3:30 p.m.

Boys tennis

In the West Bay Athletic League, Sacred Heart Prep topped host Priory, 6-1, on Monday as James Homer, Gready Hornbeek and Warren Long each won their singles matches in straight sets.

Mark Thies won at No. 4 singles for Priory, which travels to The King's Academy for a match Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Sacred Heart Prep hosts Pinewood at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.
