One of two people detained in Ventura manhunt

Police sought two people, one detained

Update: Police have located the second suspect and provided more details on the car stop and subsequent search. Read more here.

Palo Alto police sought two suspects who fled on foot from officers making a car stop in the area of Ventura Avenue and Park Boulevard Saturday afternoon.

Police tweeted an alert at 12:39 p.m. regarding the manhunt. Officers have since learned the vehicle had been reported stolen, they said. A California Highway Patrol helicopter assisted with the search.

One suspect was initially described as a male in his 20s with his hair in a bun. Police tweeted at 1:54 p.m. that officers detained a juvenile at a home within the search area. Police have discontinued the search.

Officers and detectives will be following up on leads to identify and arrest the other suspect, they said.

"If you see anyone hiding or acting suspiciously in the area, please call 9-1-1 promptly so we can investigate," police tweeted.

Palo Alto police didn’t plan on providing additional updates on Saturday, they said.

The police sent a community email at 2pm saying the perp was arrested and the police had given up searching for the second suspect, hoping to catch him or her through detective work instead

Hey, did anyone get a NIXLE alert for this? I signed up after the Santa Rosa fires, and, have previously received 5 NIXLE alerts. I see the alert for this on the NIXLE website, but, never got the text message.

We got 2 emails from Nixle, one 12:45pm saying the search was in progress and one at 2pm saying the search was finished. Not sure if we're signed up for text messages from Nixle. Email is fine with us.

When I saw the helicopter circling, I immediately went to the Caltrain twitter page expecting the worst at the Meadow grade crossing. Good news there was no news. Then time-stamped 12:46 I received the first of those two PAPD Nixle emails. PAPD twitter photos show the corner of Park and Ventura.

The latest PAPD Nixle, half-hour ago, was much more disturbing:
"Gun-Wielding Suspect Robs Man Last Night Near Downtown Palo Alto".
I was walking in the area shortly before that.
Generally I just worry about my car getting broke into.

And to wrap up, PAPD just now sent a 3rd Nixle. Web Link
