Prep soccer: Big day for Palo Alto girls, SH Prep boys

Emily Tomz scored three goals and recorded an assist to help the Palo Alto girls' soccer team beat visiting Santa Clara, 6-0, in a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League match Friday.

Ally Scheve had three assists for the Vikings (7-2, 3-0), who travel to Homestead for a league match at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Courtney Cox, Leela Srinivasan and Ivory Tang also scored for Paly. Isabella Bonomi added an assist. Clara Luehrs and Kaitlin Hanay shared goalkeeping duties.

Gunn dropped a 3-1 decision to host Fremont in a SCVAL El Camino Division contest. The Titans (2-4-3, 1-1) host Milpitas at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

In the West Bay Athletic League, Kyra Pretre scored in the final three minutes to complete a comeback and give host Menlo a 3-2 victory over Notre Dame-Belmont on Friday.

Menlo trailed the Tigers, 2-0, at halftime before the Knights turned the tables. Sophomore Sydney Peña started off the Knights scoring in the second half. Kate Gruber converted on a beautiful volley off a corner kick from fellow senior Julia Wang.

"They never negotiated work, effort, commitment and grit," Menlo first-year coach Yvan Trevino said. "Today’s positive result, is reward for not negotiating our principles and keeping at it until the end."

Caitlin Carcione, Megan Tinsley and Kristine Fisher-Colbrie each scored goals as Sacred Heart Prep topped host The King's Academy, 3-1, Friday.

Ingrid Corrigan added an assist for the Gators (2-7-1, 1-0-1), who host Notre Dame-Belmont at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Castilleja remained unbeaten, topping visiting Mercy-San Francisco, 6-1, Friday at El Camino Park.

The Gators (4-0, 2-0) play Mercy-Burlingame at 3:30 p.m. at Skyline College in San Bruno on Tuesday in a WBAL Skyline Division match.

Boys soccer

Liam Johnson scored a goal and added a pair of assists to help Sacred Heart Prep beat Eastside Prep, 3-0, in a West Bay Athletic League contest Friday.

Brian Pica and Brian Tinsley also scored for the Gators (4-3-2, 1-0-2), who travel for a match at Harker on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Eastside travels to The King's Academy for a 4 p.m. match on Friday.

Priory lost to visiting The King's Academy, 1-0, in another WBAL contest. The Panthers (1-4, 0-2) travel to Crystal Springs Uplands for a WBL contest on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Palo Alto and host Santa Clara fought to a scoreless draw Friday in a SCVAL De Anza Division game. The Vikings (7-1-2, 2-0-1) host Homestead at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Gunn lost to Saratoga, 2-0, in another SCVAL contest. The Titans (5-4-1, 1-2) host Milpitas at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

In the Peninsula Athletic League, Victor Aguila and Philip Moissis each scored a goal and Woodside beat host Hillsdale, 2-0, Friday.

Jose Capi and Kevin Soto each recorded an assist and Jonah Carranza made three saves to earn the shutout.

The Wildcats (4-2-2, 2-1-1) have a chance to make an upward move in the league standings when they play at Burlingame (4-1-2, 3-0-1) Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Menlo-Atherton dropped a 4-3 decision to visiting Carlmont in another PAL contest Friday. The Bears (2-7-1, 2-2) host second-place Aragon (4-2-4, 2-0-2) at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
