A southbound Caltrain car clipped a vehicle on the tracks at Churchill Avenue in Palo Alto on Monday evening, transit officials said.
The train struck the vehicle, which was not completely clear of the tracks, around 5:40 p.m., Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said. No injuries were reported.
Trains were held just after 6 p.m. and were single-tracked shortly thereafter. Transit police cleared the southbound track at 6:47 p.m. for train service at 30 mph speed restrictions, she said.
Trains were delayed up to 48 minutes.
Caltrain officials ask motorists to always stay off the tracks and to make sure to leave enough room to clear the right-of-way while crossing the tracks, particularly during peak hours when heavy traffic might stop abruptly.
