Extra, Extra, Menlo College splits softball DH

The Menlo College softball team split a doubleheader with Oregon Tech, losing the first game, 10-9, and taking the second game, 3-1, Sunday at Simpson in Redding. Both games were decided in extra innings.

Jordan Kennedy (2-2) took a shutout into the eighth inning and settled for a five-hitter, with the lone run a result of starting the inning with a runner at second.

Natalie Dorsey doubled home two runs and Megan Wright also drove in a run in the top of the eighth for the Oaks (6-3), who play a pair of games against La Sierra and Antelope Valley at the Biola tournament Friday, though it's subject to change.

Menlo's McKenna Vega ended Oregon Tech's no-hit bid in the fifth inning with a single, the Oaks' only hit before Wright's hit in the eighth.

Brooke Menesini collected four hits and drove in two runs in Menlo's 10-9 loss in 10 innings. Brooke Shigematsu had two hits and drove in three and Cassie Grana added two hits and two RBI.

Both teams scored a run in the eighth and three runs in the ninth before Oregon Tech pushed across the lone run of the 10th inning.
