Memorial service to be held for former Stanford FB Hooper

A memorial service will be held for Fremont High and Stanford grad Greg Hooper, who passed away on Nov. 26, at the San Jose Scottish Rite Center on Sunday at 2 p.m. He was 55 years old.

Dr. Hooper, a Redwood City native, rushed for 594 yards during a four-year football career (1979-82) as a fullback, averaging 5.1 yards a carry.

He also caught 49 passes for 264 yards. Hooper appeared in 44 games for the Cardinal.

An exceptional tennis player as well, he helped his brother Chip achieve success at Gunn High.

Hooper studied human biology at Stanford, received his medical degree from Howard and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at UC Davis in Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Hooper began his career at Sequoia and later joined the family practice in Sunnyvale.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his name to the "California Masonic Foundation," with instructions to direct funds to the Nurses' Oncology Program.
