Gas-main break limiting traffic on Stanford campus

Incident being investigated on Campus Drive near Junipero Serra Boulevard

Palo Alto police and fire departments are investigating a gas-main break on the 1000 block of Campus Drive on the Stanford University campus that occurred on Thursday at about 9:31 a.m. The incident involves a line that was damaged by a contractor, according to emergency dispatchers.

Firefighters checked for gas at 1035 Campus, the Kappa Sigma House. At 11:21 a.m. they allowed occupants to return to the building after the gas was turned off. The incident is in the area of Mayfield Drive. Traffic was impeded in that area for about two hours.

Pacific Gas and Electric personnel were on site shutting off the leak.
