'Sandbag Day' set for Dec. 17

City of Palo Alto recommends early preparedness for winter storms

Free sandbags that can guard against water flooding homes will be distributed by the City of Palo Alto on Dec. 17, 9 a.m. to noon, or until supplies last, city officials have announced.

The event will take place at the Municipal Service Center, 3201 East Bayshore Road. Volunteers and city staff will be on hand to help load the free, filled sandbags into vehicles.

The event is open only to Palo Alto residents, who should bring identification. City officials recommend that people should not put off preparations for the winter storms until the last minute.

More information is available at the city's website and at cityofpaloalto.org/storms.

Heavy rain is predicted for Thursday afternoon for the Bay Area.
