Castilleja among local teams honored for scholastic achievement

Castilleja earned a total of four fall season scholastic championship team awards from the Central Coast Section, including the top honor for tennis it was announced Thursday.

Sacred Heart Prep also earned four team scholastic awards while Menlo School and Palo Alto each earned two and Gunn earned one.

Simran Sandhu helped Castilleja earn top scholastic team honors for tennis.
The CCS Board of Managers instituted the awards in 1985 to recognize the top five varsity teams from each sport, with the highest collective grade point average.

In addition to tennis, Castilleja is represented by water polo, which won the PAL title, golf and cross country. The Gators ranked second to Pioneer in water polo, 3.7879 to 3.7875, and second in golf to Presentation, 3.9070 to 3.8689. The Gators ranked fourth in cross country.

The Sacred Heart Prep football team ranked second to Mitty, 3.5282 to 3.5138, and ranked third in boys water polo, which won the WCAL title. The girls water polo, WCAL co-champs, and tennis teams ranked fourth.

Palo Alto's girls volleyball team, champion of the SCVAL De Anza Division, ranked fifth, and the SCVAL El Camino champion boys cross country team ranked third.

A pair of Menlo's league championship teams are on the list: boys water polo and football each ranked fifth. Gunn was a close second to Castilleja in girls tennis, 3.8819 to 3.8680.
