Menlo's Ensch earns weekly GSAC men's soccer honor

Menlo College senior Jonny Ensch earned Golden State Athletic Conference Offensive men's soccer Player of the Week honors, putting an exclamation mark on a historic weekend for the Oaks.

Menlo won a pair of thrilling, overtime contests to claim a share of the GSAC regular season title for the first time in program history. Ensch was a big reason for that.

On Thursday, the Oaks wasted little time in picking up the golden goal victory over Biola as Ensch created a scoring opportunity with a solid build up on the near side of the field.

Ensch worked the ball into space and delivered a beautiful pass up ahead to fellow senior David Beary who buried it for the game winner.

Fast forward to Saturday, the Oaks hosting 19th-ranked Hope International.

With the Oaks needing a win to secure a share of the GSAC title and a first round bye in the postseason tournament, the game headed to double overtime.

With just moments left in the frame, Ensch hustled to pick up a deflection as the ball was rolling toward the corner. He possessed it, turned, and fired off a shot that beat the keeper in the upper corner of the far post from a seemingly impossible angle. The goal was his second of the season and sixth of his career.

Menlo concluded the regular season with a 13-4-1 overall record and 7-2-1 mark in the conference. They received a first round bye and will open postseason play in La Mirada on Nov. 10 against the highest remaining seed following the completion of the first round.
