Palo Alto girls win big in SCVAL water polo tournament

 

Freshman Chesnie Cheung scored six goals to help Palo Alto beat Cupertino, 19-4, in the Santa Clara Athletic League Valley girls water polo tournament Friday night.

The Vikings (11-13) will play Fremont for fifth place Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Gunn.

Sophie Frick added four goals while Talia Stanley, Sabrina Hall and Tyler Varrer each added a pair for Palo Alto.

Goalie Joanna Falla recorded 13 saves in Paly's 8-5 loss to Los Altos in Thursday's first round.

Top-seeded Los Gatos advanced to the tournament championship match at 7 p.m. by beating the Eagles, 14-11, in overtime.

The Wildcats play either Gunn or Mountain View in the title contest.
