Menlo's Swart earns GSAC Defensive Player of the Week


Menlo College women's soccer keeper Kaylin Swart had a huge game for the Oaks in a nonconference match against NCAA Division II Dominican on Wednesday afternoon.

Swart sent away 11 shots in a double overtime scoreless draw to move the Oaks to 2-1-1 on the season.

Swart, who spent the summer in Rio as a member of the South African National Team, has had a strong start to her junior season as an Oak, tallying 21 saves, two shutouts and holding a sub-1 goals against average.

Swart is the first Menlo player to earn GSAC Player of the Week honors in 2016-17. Swart and the Oaks return to action on Thursday to take on Marymount at home at 3:30 p.m.

Women's volleyball

Sierra Buscher and Ana Bechtel were named to the All-Tournament team but the Oaks were unable to pick up a win on day two of the Slugfest tournament, falling 3-2 to Whitman and 3-0 to UC Santa Cruz.

The Oaks return home on Wednesday for a pair of exhibition matches before jumping into conference play on Friday.
