Course record set in first cross country race of the year

Palo Alto senior Kent Slaney set a Bol Park course record, racing 10:13, at the annual Palo Alto-Gunn Alumni meet Wednesday.

Two other runners joined the top 20, Paly's Naveen Pai went 10:50 to move into 17th place and Gunn's Jonas Enders tied for 19th with a 10:52. Enders moved into a 10th place among varsity boys.

Gunn's Justin Chiao raced 11:31, the top course record for freshmen boys.

For the 37 years records have been kept, the fastest time, until Wednesdsay, on the Bol Park course was 10:24, set by Vikings runner Phil MacQuitty.

Slaney shaved 11 seconds off the course record, and bettered his time from last year by 15 seconds.

It's worth noting that the course was changed in 2013 to accommodate construction; the course is ~15s faster now than it was pre-2013. Still, fantastic races from everyone!
