Keller Chryst, a redshirt sophomore at Stanford, didn't have far to go to college. Chryst, a 2014 graduate of Palo Alto, was highly recruited after he set several offensive records in his days as a Viking. Chryst was in a duel with redshirt junior Ryan Burns for the No. 1 quarterback job for the Cardinal.
Well-known local sportswriter John Reid caught up with the 6-foot-5, 214-pound Chryst after last Friday's scrimmage.
REID: How did you think you did out there?
CHRYST: You know, some good things and some bad things. I have a lot to clean up. There were some plays where I can say, that was the right check or the right read. Overall, it was an average day.
REID: How do you think the competition is going? You think it's fair, giving you equal reps?
CHRYST: We're not thinking about it as competition at all. We're getting equal reps. Both of us are just trying to get better.
REID: What do you think you need to do to win this job?
CHRYST: I need to get better every single day. Show the team I can lead them. I need to have some positive results. That's about all I can do.
REID: Your dad, Geep, was here, right?
CHRYST: Yes. It was good to have him around supporting me.
