Stanford women sink Navy in soccer season opener


Alana Cook and Michelle Xiao each scored a goal and the Stanford women's soccer team opened the season with a 2-1 nonconference over host Navy on Friday.

The fifth-ranked Cardinal play at Georgetown at 9 a.m. Sunday. The Hoyas opened with a 6-0 victory over Towson.

Stanford outshot Navy, 18-3, including 7-1 on goal. Senior goalkeeper Jane Campbell saw one shot, which went for a goal in the 78th minute.

Following a scoreless first half, Cook gave the Cardinal the lead with a header into the net off a corner kick from Andi Sullivan.

Xiao made it 2-0 in the 77th minute, dribbling into the penalty box and then beating the Navy goalkeeper to the far post.

Jordan DiBiasi took four shots, with three on goal.

Danville's Rachel Feldman was responsible for the assist that resulted in the Navy goal against Stanford.
How many unranked teams will score against the Cardinal this season?
