Chan earns 3,030 points in heptathlon at junior championships


Peninsula Flyers Alexandra Chan finished 16th overall with 3,030 points in the heptathlon at the USA junior track and field Olympics Tuesday at Sacramento State.

Chan finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 15-9 3/4 and recorded a best of 692 points in the 200 meters.

The meet gets going in earnest on Wednesday with a full slate of individual events and relays.

Chan is one of 18 athletes from the Palo Alto-based Peninsula Flyers club who qualified for the meet. She's also one of four Menlo School athletes who qualified.

Other Flyers who will be attending include Tanish Chettier, Peter Fraleigh, Brody Land-McGowen, Caleb Quartey, Christopher Pearson, Alonso Gonsalaz-Villagran, Luke Sage, Adam Sage and Austin Raiff on the boys side.

Joining Chan on the girls side are Sophia Gallo, Amariah Davidson, Ayanna Donwerth, Lena Kalotihos, Elizabeth Vastano, Ella Ball, Amber Fry and Angie Wang.

For Menlo, Robert Miranda, Electa Narasin and Kyla Pretre join Chan.
