Four different players collected three hits and the Palo Alto Babe Ruth 14-year-old all-star team downed Sonoma, 11-1, Thursday at Clark Field in Woodland on Wednesday.
Trevor Leon, Owen Crevelt, Paul Thie and Ian Collins each collected three hits for the Palo Alto 14s, combining to drive in nine runs. Leon drove in four of them.
Dante Cacchione also drove in a pair of runs and Thie scored four times to help Palo Alto.
Palo Alto meets Woodland at 6 p.m. Thursday for the right to take on Tri-Valley for the tournament title.
Thie was the winning pitcher, going the first three innings. Cacchione, Charlie Giesler and Liam Mauck finished it off.
Crevelt singled in the first run of the game to highlight a four-run rally.
Leon doubled home a run and Collins added a two-run single.
Palo Alto 13s
Adrian Contreras collected three hits and drove in three runs to help the Palo Alto Babe Ruth 13-year-old all-star team beat Woodland, 12-2, in the Northern California state tournament at McKelvey Field in Mountain View on Wednesday.
Zach Donaker, Griffin Zajac and William Pires combined on the six-hitter, allowing one earned run.
Dean Casey had two hits and drove in three runs, Jonah Elisofon added two hits and two RBI. Pirees and Matthew Caren each had two hits.
Contreras broke a 1-1 with a two-run single that sparked an eight-run rally in the third for Palo Alto.
With two outs, Donaker walked and Kyle Hartminis, Adar Schwarzbach, Elisofon and Casey all followed with singles to help produce the big inning.
Palo Alto takes on Tri-Valley at 4 p.m. Thursday, needing to win twice to capture the tournament title. The second game, if necessary, would follow at about 6 p.m.
