Matthew Caren and Adrian Contreras each had three hits and drove in three runs and the Palo Alto 13-year-old Babe Ruth all-star team beat host Mountain View, 14-5, in a state tournament contest at McKelvey Park on Monday.
Palo Alto continues play at 4 p.m. Tuesday at McKelvey Park against either Bel-Mateo or Vallejo.
Griffin Zajac pitched the first four innings, allowing a run on four hits, to earn the victory. He struck out three. Kyle Hartmanis and Caren combined to finish out the game.
Stephen Lee had two hits and drove in two runs, Jonah Elisofon drove in a pair and Dean Casey had three hits for Palo Alto. Zachary Donaker and William Pires each scored three hits and drove in a run.
Caren's bases-loaded single drove in Palo Alto's first two runs in the first inning. Lee and Hartmanis also drove in runs to put Palo Alto in control early.
Contreras added a two-run single in the second and Pires also plated a run.
Caren retired seven of the final eight batters he faced.
