A man suspected of raping a woman he knew at his Palo Alto home and preventing her from leaving has been arrested, according to Palo Alto police.
Investigators said the alleged sexual assault took place on June 25. A woman in her 20s told police that after going to dinner with Yue Zhou, 27, and other acquaintances, she dropped Zhou off at his home in the Charleston Meadows neighborhood. Zhou invited her inside to have a glass of water and rest after she said she was tired, police said.
The woman agreed and went inside the home where Zhou allegedly raped her. After the assault, Zhou allegedly prevented her from leaving by holding a knife while telling her she couldn't go, police said. After several hours, the woman was able to get out of the home and drove away. Police did not say how she escaped.
On Tuesday, at about 7:50 a.m., detectives contacted Zhou at his home in the 4200 block of Wilkie Way and took him into custody without incident, according to police. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for felony rape by force, felony sexual battery and felony false imprisonment.
