Armed robber hits Palo Alto 7-Eleven store

Police: Gunman escapes with undisclosed amount of cash from Midtown convenience store

A handgun-wielding man robbed the 7-Eleven store in the Midtown neighborhood early Friday morning, June 17, Palo Alto police said.

Police dispatchers received a call at about 2:11 a.m. from the clerk at the convenience store, at 708 Colorado Ave., reporting the store had just been robbed at gunpoint. Officers arrived on scene shortly thereafter, but they were not able to locate the robber.

A man entered the store, pointed a handgun at the clerk and forced him to open the cash register. The clerk, a male in his 50s, complied with the gunman's demands. The gunman removed cash from the register, and then ran out of the store headed east on Colorado Avenue. No one else was in the store at the time of the robbery, and the clerk was not injured, police said.

The gunman is of an unknown race, about 6 feet 2 inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a bright blue sweatshirt with a large black Nike emblem on the front, and the hood was tied down so that his face was not easily seen, police said. He was wearing blue jeans and white high-top shoes. He was armed with a dark-colored, compact semi-automatic handgun.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Palo Alto Police Department's 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413. Anonymous tips can be emailed to or sent by text message or voice mail to 650-383-8984.

So what is this, the 20th time this 7-11 has been robbed? Since it happens so often (and I don;t recall the robbers ever being caught), maybe it is time to up the surveillance cameras - outside to get a license plate.
