Team USA to meet Spain in FINA WL Super Final title match

Future Stanford freshman Makenzie Fischer was one of four players to record a pair of goals for the USA women's senior national water polo team in an 11-5 victory over host China in the semifinal round of the FINA World League Super Final in Shanghai on Sunday.

The Americans (5-0, 27-2) meet Spain in Sunday's championship game in a rematch of the 2012 Olympic gold medal match. The U.S. is the defending Super Final champion. The Spanish team edged Australia, 10-8, in the other semifinal.

"We had a consistent effort throughout the match to produce a win," U.S. coach Adam Krikorian said. "We still have better water polo in us but this was a good result against a quality Chinese team."

Rachel Fattal, Alys Williams and veteran Kami Craig each added two goals for the Americans, who beat Spain during pool play.

Team USA went 2-of-4 on power plays while China went 1-of-4 on power plays with neither side attempting a penalty shot.
