Klass, Price earn weekly player of week honors

Stanford freshman Kat Klass was named MPSF/Kap7 Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season when the conference announced its weekly women's water polo honors on Tuesday afternoon.

Klass scored a Stanford season-high five goals to pace the No. 3 Cardinal to a 17-3 win at No. 10 San Jose State in the teams' MPSF opener on Saturday. The freshman scored twice in each of the first and second quarters and added another in the third to up her season goals total to 28, an average of 1.87 per game.

Klass' career-high effort was the highest goal total for a Stanford player in a league game since Kiley Neushul scored six at CSU Bakersfield on April 12, 2014. Current senior Anna Yelizarova was the last Cardinal freshman to score five times in a game, when she put home that many in a 15-4 win over San Jose State on February 2, 2013.

Stanford (13-2, 1-0 MPSF) is off for finals and returns to the pool on March 20 at UC San Diego.

Elizabeth Price earned her conference-best fourth Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week honor after helping guide Stanford to a season-best performance and victories against No. 7 UCLA and No. 10 Georgia, as announced by the conference Tuesday.

Price tied her career high in the all-around (39.675) and bars (9.975) to claim individual victories, placed second on vault (9.975) and tied for fourth on floor (9.900). She is one of the few gymnasts in collegiate gymnastics performing a yurchenko double full on vault and went 9.975.

Price's scores helped Stanford tie or set season bests in all four events and register a season-high 197.400 to upset the Bruins and Bulldogs.

Price is tied for second in the nation in the all-around with a Regional Qualifying Score of 39.570.

Price has scored 9.825 or higher in 32-of-35 performances this season and 9.900 or higher in 39-of-60 performances during her collegiate career. She has registered 26 individual event victories in 42 possible events this season.
