Police: Woman groped in downtown Palo Alto

Man walking and shouting allegedly grabs woman as she is walking her dog

Police are looking for a man who allegedly groped a woman in downtown Palo Alto Tuesday evening, according to a police department press release.

At about 6:33 p.m., a woman in her 20s was walking her dog on the 500 block of Emerson Street when she saw a man walking through the parking garage at 539 Emerson St. The man was yelling but at no one in particular, the woman told police. The man then approached the woman and grabbed her rear, then walked south on Emerson, police said.

The woman scolded the man, and he shouted obscenities at her as he continued to walk away, police said. The woman then called police. Officers arrived at the scene but were unable to locate the man.

He is described as a white male in his 30s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a skinny build. He had salt-and-pepper hair that was parted on the side and gelled back. He was wearing a black zippered jacket with a small logo on the chest and blue jeans. No sketch of the man is available at this time, police stated.

There has been a series of sexual assaults around northern Palo Alto over the past few years where the attacker is described as a tall thin white male. Have the police made any arrests in these cases? Are the descriptions similar enough that they are looking for a serial attacker? The number of cases that are reported on Palo Alto Online is not small and I'm sure some number cases are not reported to the police.

Do we KNOW anything about these types of guys who do this randomly? Profile? Why they must think they are entitled to such gross behavior...

I wonder if the woman could ID the perp from a picture of some of PA's finest downtown area "wanderers"?
