Stanford men's tennis caught in blizzard, play suspended

The Stanford men's tennis team was grounded by blizzard conditions Saturday, with play in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend suspended at Columbia University in New York.

No. 14 Virginia Tech and and the 20th-ranked Cardinal will compete in Sunday's first match at 7 a.m. (PT), followed by an 11 a.m. match with the host Lions and Minnesota.

On Monday, the losers of the two matches will face off at 10 am, with a 2 pm match for the two Sunday victors.

The team that makes it out of the weekend with two wins will be one of 15 schools that advance to the 2016 ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship, hosted by Virginia from Feb. 12-15.

Columbia, which has yet to compete this season, earned the right to host this weekend after back-to-back seasons in which the team won the Ivy League Championship and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.

Minnesota, Stanford and Virginia Tech are a combined 5-0 on the young season. All four teams were in last year's NCAA tournament.
