Klass named MPSF Newcomer of the Week in water polo

 

Stanford freshman Kat Klass was named MPSF/Kap7 Newcomer of the Week when the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced its weekly honors on Tuesday.

Klass opened her college career with a big weekend for the top-ranked Cardinal women's water polo team at the LouStrong Memorial, scoring seven times on the tournament's opening day and pouring in eight goals overall as Stanford started its season 4-0.

Klass earned her first career hat trick in the first game, scoring three times in Stanford's 16-10 victory over No. 10 Pacific on Saturday morning.

Later that afternoon, Klass was responsible for four of her team's goals in the Cardinal's 11-6 win against No. 9 UC Davis.

The freshman closed out her weekend with another score in a 19-1 victory over CSU Monterey Bay on Sunday.

Klass tied junior All-American Jamie Neushul for the team lead in goals through the season's first weekend.

Stanford have a few weeks off before returning to action on Feb. 6 and 7 when it hosts the Stanford Invitational at Avery Aquatic Center. Tickets are on sale now by visiting GoStanford.com.
