Stanford's Price earns Pac-12 honor for women's gymnastics

Stanford's Elizabeth Price was named the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week for her outstanding performance this past weekend at the season-opening NorCal Classic at San Jose State.

Performing in the all-around for the second time in her career, Price swept the individual event victories with meet-best scores in vault (9.850), bars (9.900), beam (9.850) and floor (9.900). She earned the all-around title with a final score of 39.500.

"She's one of the best in the world and we're happy to have her on our team," said Stanford head coach Kristen Smyth after the meet.

It is the first Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week honor of Price's career. She was named the 2015 Pac-12 Specialist of the Year and won the 2015 NCAA title on vault.

Price's meet-best performance on beam was clutch with the Cardinal missing two routines in the event and needing a big score. It was the second beam performance of her career.

Price led by example throughout the meet, delivering big scores in crucial moments for the Cardinal. Her performance in the final rotation on bars helped Stanford secure a second-place finish.

It was the second time Price competed in the all-around in her career and the second time she earned the individual victory.

Price and Stanford will look to continue its momentum built on a strong finish at the NorCal Classic when it travels to No. 15 Georgia on Monday at 11 a.m. (PT).
