Melvin Williams allegedly stole alcohol, threatened to shoot security guard

After a "lengthy foot pursuit," police captured and arrested a 56-year-old man Monday afternoon on suspicion of stealing alcohol and threatening to shoot a security guard at Trader Joe's in Menlo Park, police reported.

Melvin Williams of East Palo Alto was booked into San Mateo County jail on suspicion of robbery, criminal threat and resisting arrest, police said. No weapon was found.

Police were called at 3:46 p.m. with reports that a man had stolen alcohol and threatened a security officer before fleeing the store on Menlo Avenue.

Police said Williams is also suspected in the robbery of a Home Depot store in East Palo Alto.
