Menlo-Atherton finds a new head coach for boys soccer

Menlo-Atherton has hired Leonid ("Leo") Krupnik as the new head coach for the boys varsity soccer team.

Krupnik comes to M-A with an extensive background in collegiate and professional soccer. He was born in Ukraine and moved to the United States in the 1990s. He played soccer at Washington High in San Francisco before playing four year at the University of California, earning captain honors his senior year in 2001.

After college, Krupnik went on to play professionally in Major League Soccer and then the Israel Premier League, where he earned over 100 caps.

Krupnik recently relocated to the Bay Area with his family. He also coaches with the Alpine Strikers, and has expressed an interest in becoming a teacher. As a coach, Krupnik strongly believes in helping young athletes discover their potential and reach their goals.

Krupnik replaces Jacob Pickard, who guided M-A to a PAL Bay Division title last season and a 16-4 overall record. The Bears' season ended with a 2-0 loss to Bellarmine in the Central Coast Section Division I semifinals after M-A came in as the No. 1 seed.

Hearn completed the course, which runs over a mountain, in 29 hours, 34 minutes. He was one of six Americans to finish the race and the top male to do so. Hearn will turn 50 on Oct. 10.
