Freshmen lead Menlo College men to opening soccer victory

 

The Menlo College men's soccer team opened the season with a 2-0 victory over host Pacific Union on Tuesday.

The Oaks host Southern Oregon on Thursday in their home opener at 1 p.m.

Menlo scored twice in the first half and held on. Both goals came from freshman.

Robert Cowan got the Oaks on the board in the 15th minute, getting an assist from junior Ryan Onizuka. Stephan Levy scored less than 20 minutes later for the Oaks, also on an assist from Onizuka.

The Pioneers managed just five total shots, three on goal. Junior transfer Alex Coates-McDowall recorded the shutout in his first career start, making three saves.
