A six-vehicle crash on Alma Street and Oregon Expressway in Palo Alto injured at least three people and snarled rush-hour traffic on Tuesday afternoon.
The chain-reaction collisions, which occurred at about 4:40 p.m. on the westbound entrance to Oregon Expressway from Alma, sent one vehicle across Oregon and into the center divider, Palo Alto police said. Some of the cars were struck at least twice and paramedics transported three people to the hospital. Their conditions are not currently known.
At least one of the vehicles was sideswiped. Most of the vehicles were removed from the scene on flatbed trucks. The ramp at Alma is a notorious blind spot for drivers trying to enter the expressway.
Police are still trying to determine what caused the accidents. They closed off westbound Oregon Expressway between Alma and Bryant streets for more than an hour, along with the entrance points at both locations.
