A 29-year-old East Palo Alto man who died Saturday night after the motorcycle he was riding was hit on a Milpitas highway was identified Monday as Maka Langi, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.
The vehicle that hit Langi fled the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At 9:15 p.m., CHP officers responded to reports of a motorcyclist lying in the roadway on northbound Interstate Highway 880, just south of state route 237, according to CHP. Upon arrival, emergency crews located the deceased man and officers closed four of the highway's lanes to collect evidence, CHP officials said.
A motorist pulled the motorcycle, a 2007 Harley Davidson, off the roadway, according to CHP.
CHP officials described the vehicle that was allegedly involved in the collision as a newer, black Dodge Charger or Challenger with retro style wrap around taillights.
Witness reported seeing the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision, CHP officials said. Investigators have not determined as of Monday whether alcohol or drug use were factor in the collision.
