Shane Wallace hit an inside-the-park home run to spark the Palo Alto Babe Ruth 15-year-old all-stars to an 11-2 victory over Bel-Mateo in District 6 action Thursday night at Baylands Athletic Center.
Host Palo Alto, which had 14 hits in the game, will play either Mountain View or Bel-Mateo for the title on Friday at 8 p.m. Bel-Mateo topped Mountain View, 6-4, in the district opener in the first game Thursday.
In the 14-year-old tournament at the Belmont Sports Complex, Palo Alto blanked host Bel-Mateo, 2-0, on Thursday. Hyunwoo Roh pitched six innings to pick up the win.
Meanwhile, the Palo Alto 13-year-old all-stars will have a much-needed path to the NorCal State Tournament now that the three-team District 6 tourney at Mountain View's McKelvey Field has been reduced to just two.
Host Mountain View pulled out of the event before the opening round due to losing a handful of players to travel ball, leaving just Palo Alto and Bel-Mateo to battle it out. Palo Alto grabbed the advantage in the double-elimination tourney by posting a 4-0 victory on Wednesday night as Ryan Mo pitched six strong innings and the final inning was covered by John Canessa.
Palo Alto had eight singles as Charlie Giesler, Paul Thie and Aidan Everett all had two hits.
Palo Alto and Bel-Mateo meet again Friday at McKelvey at 6:30 p.m. Should Palo Alto lose, a challenge game will be played Saturday at 11 a.m. The district winner will advance to the NorCal State Tournament in Ukiah starting July 10.
