Menlo-Atherton hires a new girls volleyball coach

Fletcher Anderson has been hired as the new girls volleyball coach at Menlo-Atherton High, as announce by co-athletic directors Paul Snow and Steven Kryger.

Anderson comes to M-A with an extensive background in competitive volleyball, including as a player. While at Golden West Community College, he was awarded the MVP of the league two years in a row. He then went on to play at Long Beach State, where he helped his team earn a trip to the NCAA Final Four and was awarded first team all-conference honors.

After college, he went on to play professionally in Europe for two seasons. During his first year in Sweden, he was selected as the MVP of the Elitesires League -- the first middle to ever receive that award. He then went on to play in the highly competitive Bundasliga in Germany.

Playing at Los Gatos High, Anderson was selected as a Volleyball Magazine "Fab 50" recruit.

His coaching career began locally at Vision Volleyball Club in 2010. He was an assistant coach for the 18 Blue team for four years and is now the head coach of the 16 Blue team. He was also an assistant coach at Bay to Bay Boys Volleyball Club in 2010 and an assistant coach at Menlo-Atherton in 2011.

Anderson replaces Ron Whitmill, who guided the Bears to a 30-4 record and berth in the CIF NorCal Division I finals last season. The Bears fell to top-seeded Pitman in five sets. It was M-A's second NorCal title match since 2011. The 30 victories ranked at No. 2 in program history, trailing only the 31 put up by the 2011 squad.
