Stanford grad Thomas sees NFL stint with the Niners come to an end


Stanford grad Chase Thomas was waived by the San Francisco 49ers on Monday.

Thomas (6-4, 255) spent the 2015 season between San Francisco's practice squad and active roster as a linebacker, where he registered two special teams tackles in five games played.

A 25-year old native (he turns 26 in June) of Marietta, GA, Thomas attended Stanford University, where he played in 53 games and tallied 229 tackles, 50 1/2 tackles for loss, 27 1/2 sacks, nine forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and two interceptions for the Cardinal.

Thomas, who is rehabbing an in jury, originally signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in April of 2013, but was claimed off waivers by the Oakland Raiders during training camp in August. After 11 days he was waived again and picked up by the Atlanta Falcons in September of 2013.

The former All-American was signed by the 49ers in May of 2014.
