Stanford golf pair opens as top-ranked team at U.S. Amateur

Maverick McNealy and Viraat Badhwar enter the match-play portion of the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship as the top-ranked team after 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying that ended Sunday.

McNealy and Badhwar, both sophomores at Stanford, finished at 10-under after carding a 66 Sunday at The Olympic Club's Lake Course to take medalist honors at the inaugural event.

"Every time you look at a list of champions you always fall on the first one first," McNealy said in a release. "To have our names on top would be awesome. There's always a first for everything and it's cool to be part of the first one."
