Top prep tight end gives verbal commitment to Stanford

One of the top tight end prospects in the nation, Kaden Smith of Marcus High in Texas, announced his intention to attend Stanford via twitter on Saturday.

"I am excited to announce that I will be playing football at Stanford University," wrote Smith, who is ranked either first or second in the nation by several recruiting services.

Smith earned MVP honors at tight end and wide receiver at several football camps and enters his senior season with 87 career receptions for 1,343 yards.

"Congrats you earned everything with your great work ethic," Marcus football coach J.D. Martinez tweeted. "#TheFarm got an amazing young man."

He's the third commit of the 2016 season, joining four-star quarterback K.J. Costello and three-star defensive tackle Bo Peek.

Smith apparently chose Stanford over Alabama and Texas.
