Menlo College women sign first soccer commit for next fall

Valencia High senior Carolina Velez became Menlo College's first official commit, when she signed a letter on Wednesday, coach Keith Lambert announced.

"Carolina is a fantastic player who is comfortable and composed on the ball and also very tough on the tackle," Lambert said. "Both her club and high school teams are very competitive and have prepared her well for the college game."

Velez is a four-year starter for Valencia, where she earned the team's Defensive Player of the Year award in 2012-13 and won the Coach's Award in 2013-14. During that 2012-13 season, Velez helped the team to a Foothill League Championship. She plays for the Beach FC out of Southern California.

"In addition to being a strong player on the field she is solid in the classroom and an all-around good person," Lambert said. "I am very happy that she will be joining our soccer team and the Menlo College family."

Velez has been on the Honor Roll all four years, won the Scholar Athlete Award four times and is a three-year member of National Honor Society and the California Scholastic Federation.
