Sowards scores 15 points as Menlo women win third straight

Aaliyah Sowards scored 15 points, one of four players to reach double figures, and the Menlo College women's basketball team dispatched visiting Cal State San Marcos, 88-56, in a nonconference game on Saturday.

Tori Conley added 13 points as Menlo (8-2) won its third straight since a two-game losing streak, with a margin of victory over 20 points in that span. Laurel Donnenwirth had 12 and Jolise Limcaco 11.

The Oaks travel to Hawaii for games against No. 13 Siena Heights on Saturday and Dickinson State on Sunday.

Cal State San Marcos was within 20-16 of the Oaks with 13:06 remaining to play in the first half. Five minutes later, a 21-0 run put Menlo ahead, 41-16.

Limcaco and Sowards combined to score 19 of Menlo's first 34 points on 7 of 9 shooting. The Oaks made 17 of their first 24 shots (.708) and took advantage of 14 Cougar turnovers for 27 points in the first half.

Jenna Arnett, who led the Oaks with eight rebounds, scored with 10 seconds left to give Menlo a 55-28 halftime lead.
