Palo Alto man arrested for allegedly firing pellet gun at Jiffy Lube

Police said shots almost hit an employee, damaged a customer's car

No one was injured in a Jiffy Lube after a Palo Alto man allegedly fired his pellet gun at the business across the street from his home last Thursday.

Police said Junwei Gu, 26, was arrested on the morning of Oct. 30 after police received a call just before 11 a.m. reporting that a man was shooting a pellet gun from the balcony of a condominium complex behind the shop at 4195 El Camino Real. Some of the rounds barely missed a Jiffy Lube employee, police said, while others struck signs at the business and hit a customer's car, causing minor damage.

Police arrived at the scene and searched for the suspect, ultimately detaining Gu as he was exiting his home. Officers found the pellet gun – an 8-inch revolver powered by a carbon dioxide cartridge – and accompanying .177-caliber rounds at Gu's home and collected the weapon as evidence. Gu was booked at the Santa Clara County Main Jail on one charge of felony assault with a deadly weapon because of "the potential for serious injury had the employee actually been struck," police said in a statement.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the department's 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413. Anonymous tips can be emailed to paloalto@tipnow.org or sent by text message or voice mail to 650-383-8984.

The Jiffy Lube employees probably used the old "your air filter has bulletholes in it" routine for that precious upsell.

Twenty-six years old, and shooting a pellet gun at a nearby business?
Got to wonder why this young man was not at work?

Jiffy Lube may have left the oil cap off and the oil from someone's car all the oil drained out and ruined the engine. I will never return there for any reason!
