Palo Alto man arrested in Mountain View purse-snatching

Man also arrested in June after confrontation with teens

A 24-year-old Palo Alto man was arrested on Halloween night after he allegedly grabbed a woman's purse and made off with it into the men's bathroom at Molly Magee's in Mountain View.

According to police, Daniel Esquivel took the purse from the counter area of the bar and entered the bathroom with it just after noon on Friday, Oct. 31. Security staff was already in the bathroom confronting Esquivel on the alleged theft before the victim, a 41-year-old Redwood City woman, realized her purse was gone.

Police say Esquivel fought with security staff and was taken into custody when officers arrived, where he continued to be "uncooperative" and fought with police officers during the arrest process, according to Sgt. Saul Jaeger of the Mountain View Police Department. There were no injuries, and the purse was returned to the woman.

Esquivel was arrested on charges of petty theft, battery and resisting a police officer. Police said he was also in violation of his probation and received a probation hold. Esquivel was booked into San Jose Main Jail without bail.

Palo Alto police arrested Esquivel in June after allegedly attacking and robbing a group of five teenagers who had hit him with small noise-makers they were throwing off the roof of a downtown parking garage. He was booked for felony robbery, felony criminal threats and misdemeanor battery.

I knew I had heard this name before. The guy does not belong free, he should be locked up. I still think the kids who were throwing things at people from the parking structure should have been punished though. I like to think the best of people, but this guy seems to already have a very fixed personality and behavior pattern.

Tough to hear about his recent troubles with the law. I've known Danny since we were at Addison. Where is his family in all this??

I've known have known Danny since his Besse Bolton preschool days. He's been a great friend to my kids. Though he's not perfect, he isn't what all this makes him out to be. The charges this article decided to bring up (again) involving the firecracker incident did not stand nor was he convicted of these charges. Danny attempted to reach out to the newspaper to tell his story, no response. I guess it's more news worthy to keep the public not informed of what truly ended up happening.

In response to Grade School Friend, I know his family, as well. There is only so much family can do. Even so, I know they would not turn their backs on him during his difficult time(s). Danny would be the first to say this isn't about his family and how much love he has from them. I don't think it's my place to talk on their behalf. Not fair to bring them into this.

I hope he gets whatever help he needs and I will be one supporting & encouraging him to seek that help if given the chance.
