Palo Alto: Teen arrested for shooting 9-year-old in alleged robbery attempt

No serious injury in Palo Alto BB gun shooting

Palo Alto police arrested a 14-year-old boy for allegedly shooting a 9-year-old in the arm with a BB gun and demanding money from him, according to a police department press release.

The incident was reported on Friday, Oct. 3, at about 7:44 p.m. in the 3900 block of El Camino Real. The 9-year-old victim had swelling and redness to one of his forearms but was not seriously injured.

According to police investigators, the 14 year old approached the younger boy, with whom he was previously acquainted, and allegedly shot him once in the arm with a BB fired from an airsoft rifle.

The boy tried to run away, but the teen chased him, pointed the airsoft rifle at him again and demanded money, police stated. The boy didn't have money and the teen eventually left him alone.

The boy told a parent about the incident, and that person called police. Officers located the teen nearby and arrested him for felony attempted robbery. The teen was later released to the custody of a parent. His name is not being released because he is a juvenile, according to police.

Police determined that the weapon belonged to a third boy, and officers took possession of it. That boy's parents voluntarily turned over five other airsoft pistols to police as well.

14 years old and committing armed robbery? Yikes. I know that juvenile names aren't released in crime reports, but the parents deserve to be called out...
