Menlo College introduces a solid baseball recruiting class

Menlo College baseball coach Jake McKinley recently released the details of his latest recruiting class, which features 14 players, including six pitchers.

Half of the group enter as true freshman, with two transferring in from NCAA Division I programs.

The Oaks had nine seniors who graduated after helping the program to four straight winning seasons, including a conference title in 2012.

All quotes are from McKinley.

Thomas Cox -- LHP (will be a junior)

Previous School: University of San Francisco

"Thomas is a big time competitor with big time stuff. He has the ability to not only anchor our rotation but emerge as one of the premier left handed arms on the west coast. He may end up being one of the best players to ever don the Oak uniform."

Riley Drongeson -- C/1B (fifth-year senior)

Previous School: University of The Pacific

"Getting a guy like Riley is enormous for our program. He has tremendous leadership abilities and will help us on both sides of the ball. He has professional tools behind the plate and will continually make our pitchers better."

CJ Romero -- RHP (will be a freshman)

Previous School: Mitty High.

"We are excited about what CJ brings to the table right away and what his future holds. He has the stuff and pitch-ability right now to be in our rotation. He went toe to toe with the best arms on the west coast, some of which were drafted guys and continued to come out on top."

Skyler Fuss -- RHP (will be a junior)

Previous School: College of San Mateo

"Skyler is a special addition for us because he can pitch in any role and be good. He commands his entire repertoire extremely well and is ultra-competitive. He has a knack for getting ahead of hitters and shows flashes of swing and miss secondary stuff."

Derek Lamensdorf -- RHP (will be a freshman)

Previous School: IMG Academy Jupiter, Fla.

"Derek Lamensdorf is everything you want in a student athlete. He has a tremendously high ceiling with the ability to be very good down the road. He's a great student, a great teammate, and I anticipate him helping our program tremendously in his career at Menlo."

Carlos Garcia -- RHP (will be a freshman)

Previous School: Castro Valley High.

"Carlos has impressed me over and over again in the recruiting process. He is a relentless competitor on the mound who is also a model citizen off the field. I think he will be a key piece of the puzzle on the mound for us in 2015."

Evan Kaufman -- LHP (will be a freshman)

Previous school: Woodbridge High Irvine.

"Evan is a nice get for us. His best days are ahead of him and he will definitely be a guy that could be used in critical situations down the road."

Garrett Gemgnani -- 1B/Catcher (will be a junior)

Previous School: Monterey Peninsula College.

"Garrett is a dynamic player who will strengthen our team on both sides of the ball. He has the ability to hit for power, but will also provide consistency at the plate. In addition, he has natural leadership qualities and will be a great ambassador of Oak's Baseball."

Drake Richie -- SS/2B (will be a junior)

Previous School: Butte College.

"Drake is a dynamic player who will take care of the ball on defense and give consistently good at bats at the plate. I anticipate him helping us right away. He is a great player, but an even better person that we're thrilled to be bringing on board."

Chris Berry -- OF (will be a junior)

Previous School: Monterey Peninsula College.

"Chris has limitless tools that will only continue to develop. He is going to have a chance to help our team out in countless ways and roles. I anticipate him being a critical piece of our team on both sides of the ball for the next two years."

Emilio Guerra -- OF (will be a freshman)

Previous School: Evergreen High, San Jose.

"Emilio is an outstanding grab for us. He can do a lot of things that will help us win baseball games down the road. He not only plays good defense, but he can be depended on to give a quality at bat."

Andrew Cox -- C (will be a freshman)

Previous School: Santa Teresa High.

"Andrew is a great defender who has a calming presence about him with pitchers. He receives well and has shown great arm strength on throw downs. He's a big strong kid who will definitely help our program down the road."

Peter Saldana -- C/OF (Will be a freshman)

Previous School: Oak Hills High.

"Peter is loaded with tools that could translate in a big way when he gets to campus. He is a polished defender who has shown extremely good bat speed. As a person, he's off the charts. Not only is a great student, he fits the mold perfectly in what we look for in a teammate."

Tyler Pollman -- 1B (will be a junior)

Previous School: Clarke Community College, Washington.

"Tyler is a real presence at the plate, and has showed great power to the opposite field gap this summer. His combination of tools, work ethic, and maturity make him an ideal fit for our program."
