PASA's Liang splashes to fourth in 100 fly at Junior Nationals

Stanford's incoming freshman swim class made its mark on Friday at the Speedo Junior National Championships with five finishes in the championship finals at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine.

Recent Palo Alto High grad Andrew Liang led the way by finishing fourth in the men's 100-meter butterfly finals in 53.94.

Liang, swimming this week for Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics, also anchored his team's 800 free relay team to eighth in 7:37.33. The team included Curtis Ogren, Lucca Martins and Joe Molinari.

Ogren added a sixth-place finish in the 400 free in 3:56.10. Fellow incoming Stanford freshman Brock Turner was third in 3:53.89.

In the women's 100 fly, incoming Cardinal freshman Lindsey Engel was sixth in 1:00.36 while Sacred Heart Prep grad Ally Howe (also headed to Stanford) was second in the C final in 1:00.88. That time would have gotten her eighth in the A final.

The meet continues through Sunday, with finals each day at 6 p.m.
