Menlo College football welcomes huge recruiting class

Menlo College football coach Mark Grieb and recruiting coordinator Vince Freitas announced the 32-player recruiting class that will join the Oaks this training camp. The class includes 29 true freshman and three transfers.

"It's a big recruiting class which is exciting because we have a lot of guys coming to school and joining our team but more important than that, I'm excited about the type of people we recruited," Grieb said.

East Palo Alto resident Zh'ir James, a defensive back and kick returner, leads the first-year Menlo players. James graduated from Sacred Heart Cathedral in San Francisco.

"We have a solid group of lineman and skill players that I think are going to help us at some key positions, but more than anything else, we have a good group of young men coming in," Grieb said. "They're good guys and good students who work hard and excel in the classroom and on the field."

The season opens August 23 when the Oaks welcome Eastern Oregon to Connor Field for a noon kickoff. Six home and five road contests make up this year's slate of games as the Oaks look to build on their 5-5 record a season ago.
